Being ‘Spiritual’

Hi Lovely!

How are you going?

I think the meaning of the word ‘spiritual’ has changed a bit over the years.

Historically it seemed to be only connected with religious settings in teachings from the pulpit.

But then I was surprised to find the oxford dictionary’s meaning!

Spirituality – “the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.”

Yey go Oxford Dictionary!

I love this! The human spirit, the human soul, we kind of know what that means. We can ‘feel’ someone’s spirit, their joyfulness or ‘specialness’ and we can see and ‘feel’ a persons soul when we say things like ‘they are a beautiful soul’.

I like these definitions too.

‘Spirituality is the broad concept of a belief in something beyond the self.”

Beliefs around the meaning of life and connection with others and the universe or higher source.’

‘The basic feeling of being self-aware and in relationship with others and nature.

‘Underlying principles such as values, morals, ethics, virtues, emotions, wisdom and intuition.

A journey of personal development and growth.

See no mention of religion or hippy woo woo stuff!

(Although of course you can mention it if you like)

So I would say I’m very SPIRITUAL!

How about you?

Let me know! If this resonates with you!

Cheers
